When I first heard about the allegations about the true story of Oedipus, I could not believe them. Oedipus hesitated at the thought of informing me on the quarrel between him and my brother Creon. He told me that he was accused of killing Laius, my former husband by a prophet. But I told him that an oracle told us that Laius would be killed by his own son, which was not possible because I thought he was killed by strangers, and my son was taken away by a henchman. I soon learned that this fact was indeed true, and it hurt me really badly. I begged Oedipus not to continue with the search for the shepherd who found him in the forest because I wanted the best for him. I went crazy at the fact that my husband was also my son, who I believed for the longest was dead. I decided to take my own life because I could no longer bear the truth, and live with this prophecy.
