I lived a rich life, a good life, but not a life that people want. You see, I got money by loving people, but I couldn't love anyone. When I was a young woman, an attractive samana came up to me and asked me to teach him the art of love. He wore a loin cloth and had no money in his purse. I told him to come back once he had money. But his poetry, it was the best thing I had ever heard. And so in return for a poem, I gave him a deep kiss in which he was enchanted.
Siddhartha went to Kamaswami and became rich. He would come to me very often and I taught him everything I knew about the art of love. He learned very well and became as good as I was. We both knew that neither of us were capable of loving but we still performed the act. Then, one day, he was gone and I was pregnant. I named our child Siddhartha and raised him until he was eleven. We travelled to the river where we found Siddhartha and I got to see him and my son one last time before I was killed from a snake bite. Siddhartha was good, but I knew that I was not his goal, and so I had to let him go.
